3DTV FAQ

3DTV has been around, since the 1950’s - it’s not a new technology.  But  the technology has come a long way.  We’ve seen an emergence of 3D content in the theaters as well as in 3D attractions at theme parks. While 3D isn’t suited for all types of content, watching a sporting event, concert or high action movie in 3D can be a wonderfully emersive experience.

As with all new technology, bringing the 3D experience to the living room will require  specific equipment and connections in order to receive the best quality 3D programming.  Members of CTAM’s Advanced Cable Solutions Consortium advanced video committee have been collaborating with each other and other organizations such as CableLabs® and the Consumer Electronics Association to develop a set of questions with responses for cable subscribers who are thinking about making a 3DTV purchase.   Consumers, distributors, content providers and retail customer service representatives will find the information in this document extremely helpful, explaining the dos and don’ts and ins and outs of purchasing and setting up a 3DTV in your home.
