This glossary of terms defines the inter-industry nomenclature associated with On Demand. The glossary was created by CTAM’s Advanced Cable Solutions Consortium Advanced Advertising and Metrics and Reporting committees. The Consortium includes a group of more than 80 companies representing MSOs, premium and basic networks, studios, hardware manufacturers, software companies, server vendors, guide companies and others.
For more information on the Consortium contact Monique Sadler Powell at monique@ctam.com or Angie Britt at angie@ctam.com.
General On Demand terms and definitions (PDF)
On Demand metrics and reporting definitions (PDF)
The goal of this information is to provide the cable industry with common industry definitions for nomenclature related to the On Demand category – especially when referring to general On Demand terms and On Demand metrics and reporting terms. The terms and definitions are not recommendations for consumer marketing materials; however, they're intended to standardize the language used as we work together to develop, enhance and provide metrics and reports relative to On Demand content.
We’d like to thank the more than 50 supporters representing more than 35 companies who contributed to this initiative as members of the Consortium’s Advanced Advertising committee and the Metrics & Reporting committee. To see a list of our Corporate Initiative Partners, please click here. We’d also like to thank our colleagues at CableLabs for their partnership and support of this project. Finally, special thanks goes to our committee leaders, Connie Pettit, OpenTV; Jan Young, Avail-TVN; Debbie Spencer, HSN; and Kristi Kramersmeier, Bright House Networks who led the committees through the review and development of these terms.
How To Use This Document
There are two sections to this glossary. The first section is a set of general On Demand terms and definitions. The second set of terms and definitions are relative to On Demand metrics and reports. All terms in both documents are alphabetized. You can search for terms or information using the Adobe search tool. Once you enter a term, the search tool will display a list of the items that contain the suggested term. You can also print these documents simply using the Adobe print tool.
