Widely Respected for Inspired Leadership, Appointment Bolsters CTAM Transition
(National Harbor, MD – October 9, 2013) CTAM is thrilled to announce the selection of John F. Lansing as the next CTAM president and CEO, following his recent retirement as president of Scripps Networks operating division. Current CTAM president and CEO, Char Beales will retire at year end.
“John guided Scripps Networks through a transformation that defined the lifestyle media genre and set the stage for today’s multiplatform content world,” said David Juliano, chair of the CTAM Board of Directors. “In the past two years, CTAM has succeeded in significantly adapting its model to meet the members’ changing need for a cable business marketing organization. John’s proven ability to unify diverse perspectives and lead organizational change is precisely what’s needed now to build on that success.”
“Rarely does a search committee endorse a candidate without reservation,” added Char Beales. “It’s a testament to John’s experience and style. I’ve worked closely with him during his chairmanship of the CTAM Educational Foundation board, where he led the rejuvenation of the organization behind the world-class executive education program at Harvard Business School. I have no doubt he will distinguish himself as an innovative, future-forward CTAM leader.”
Before joining Scripps Networks in 2004, Lansing had been with E.W. Scripps Company in Cincinnati as senior vice president for television in the broadcasting division. Prior, Lansing held management positions at Scripps-owned affiliates: WEWS in Cleveland and WXYZ in Detroit. He began his career in television news at age 17 as a photographer, ultimately becoming news director at WCCO-TV in his hometown of Minneapolis and then WBBM-TV in Chicago.
In 2006, The Delaney Report named Lansing the Cable Broadcasting Executive of the Year for his part in keeping Scripps’ lifestyle networks “fresh, informative and lively.”
Lansing currently serves on the Bellarmine University Board of Trustees and was named to the Bellarmine Gallery of Distinguished Graduates in 2010. In addition, he recently agreed to join the board of the new Poynter Foundation in support of the Poynter Institute for Media Studies, one of the nation’s top schools for professional journalists. He is a frequent national speaker on topics relating to leadership and high-performance organizations.
