"Gigasphere” is a new category name to describe the broadband technology, products, and services likely to be developed by U.S. and global cable companies in the near-term. It embraces the technology spawned by the DOCSIS 3.1 technical specification, developed by CableLabs, the R&D arm of the cable’s major distributors.
The creation of Gigasphere was prompted by industry leaders who called for a name that would resonate with consumers. A small committee with expertise in technology, operations, strategy, marketing, and communications directed the work, in partnership with CTAM, CableLabs, Cable Europe, NCTA, and highly-respected branding and design agencies.
The Gigapshere name and the logo may be used by industry executives communicating about the next-generation broadband technology supported by DOCSIS 3.1. As the marketplace evolves, Gigasphere will be used in communications and marketing to consumers, press, analysts, and others.
The consumer-facing website -- www.Gigasphere.com
-- identifies the core attributes and explains anticipated benefits. Site expansion is expected as the category grows. It may be hyperlinked from industry websites, as desired.
Preliminary deployment of Gigasphere technology (i.e., DOCSIS 3.1 modems) began in late 2014, and is expected to accelerate through 2016.
